As previously announced, BOOM! Studios will publish a new Planet of the Apes comic-book line, starting in April 2011, to be written by novelist Daryl Gregory, illustrated by Carlos Magno and edited by Chip Mosher. Although no official word has yet been released by BOOM!, th word is definitely getting out there.

Artist Chad Hardin, of Hardin Art Studios, has posted preliminary versions of the cover he produced for issue #1, showing three variations on the theme that ultimately became the final cover. Those three illustrations, along with the final cover, are below. Thanks to Mr. Hardin for sharing these excellent illustrations with fans, as they provide a fascinating look at how a Planet of the Apes cover evolves.

In addition, Diamond's Previews magazine has revealed a number of advertisements for BOOM!'s upcoming series, as seen below. These ads incorporate both covers to issue #1. (Thakns to Tim Parati for posting these images on the Yahoo Planet of the Apes message boards.)

Although these images have appeared on various blogs and news sites, BOOM! is maintaining an information blackout for now regarding its plans. An interview with writer Daryl Gregory is in the works, however, and will be posted here once that restriction has been lifted. In the meantime, revel in these covers' sheer awesimianness.
